Pod E-Cigarettes: Compact and Convenient Vaping Devices

A pod e-cigarette is a generally compact vaping device built around a cartridge system. Some models are simple and offer very few settings, while more advanced pod kits feature adjustable power, different coil options and several operating modes.

At RoyalCig, discover a selection of pod systems and compact e-cigarettes from various brands. To choose the right model, it is important to compare battery life, cartridge type, available coils and adjustment options.

How Does a Pod Kit Work?

A pod kit generally consists of a battery or power unit and a cartridge containing e-liquid. A coil heats the liquid to produce an inhaled aerosol. Depending on the model, the coil is built into the cartridge or can be replaced separately.

Some pods are activated automatically when inhaling, while others have a firing button. More advanced devices may feature a screen, adjustable power and airflow control.

Different Types of Pod Systems

Pods with Built-In Coils

On these models, the coil is integrated directly into the cartridge. When the coil reaches the end of its service life, the entire cartridge generally needs replacing. This design reduces the amount of maintenance required.

Pods with Replaceable Coils

Some refillable pod systems allow users to keep the cartridge and replace only the coil. This requires choosing coils compatible with the device.

Pods with Adjustable Power

Models with adjustable power allow users to customise the device's operation within the limits specified by the manufacturer. They may support several coil types and different inhalation styles.

How to Choose a Pod E-Cigarette

Battery Life

The battery capacity of a pod system is generally expressed in milliampere-hours (mAh). Actual battery life varies depending on the selected power, installed coil and frequency of use.

Most compact pod systems use a built-in rechargeable battery. However, some models operate with removable batteries. This feature should be checked before purchasing.

Cartridge Capacity

The tank capacity determines how much e-liquid the pod can hold. Some models feature side, top or bottom filling systems. The availability of replacement cartridges is also an important consideration.

Vaping Style: MTL or RDL

Pod systems may offer mouth-to-lung (MTL) inhalation, generally associated with a tighter draw, or restricted direct-to-lung (RDL) inhalation, which provides a more open airflow. Depending on their design, some models also support other inhalation styles.

The draw depends mainly on the cartridge, coil and airflow settings.

Which E-Liquid Should You Use with a Pod?

The compatibility of an e-liquid for pod systems primarily depends on the coil, liquid delivery system and manufacturer's recommendations. The PG/VG ratio affects the viscosity of the liquid and how it reaches the coil.

Some pod systems can be used with e-liquids containing freebase nicotine or nicotine salts, provided they are compatible with the device. The appropriate nicotine strength should take into account the habits of an adult smoker and the characteristics of the device.

Nicotine is addictive. Vaping products are not risk-free and are not intended for non-smokers.

How to Maintain Your Pod Kit

Pod maintenance includes checking the condition of the cartridge, gently cleaning accessible contacts according to the instructions and replacing consumable components when necessary.

Reduced flavour, a burnt taste or unusual operation may indicate that a cartridge or coil needs replacing.

After installing a new cartridge or coil, follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding filling and the time required for the cotton to absorb the e-liquid.

Pod System or Traditional E-Cigarette Kit: What Are the Differences?

The main practical advantage of a pod system is its generally compact design and cartridge-based operation. A traditional e-cigarette kit may combine a box mod with a separate tank and offer different power and adjustment options.

However, the distinction between these categories is not always clear. Some modern pods offer features comparable to those of larger kits. The choice should therefore be based on technical specifications rather than the product category alone.
