Replaceable battery e-cigarettes

E-Cigarettes with Removable Batteries: Choosing a 18650 or 21700 Model

An e-cigarette with a removable battery operates with one or more replaceable battery cells. Unlike an e-cigarette with a built-in battery, it uses compatible batteries that can be removed and replaced according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

At RoyalCig, discover different e-cigarettes with removable batteries, particularly in 18650 and 21700 formats. These devices are available as electronic box mods or complete kits, with varying power ratings, dimensions and features.

Choosing an e-cigarette with removable batteries requires considering its format, the number of batteries needed, operating power and compatibility with the tank or atomizer. Vaping is intended for adult smokers and is not risk-free.

What Are the Advantages of an E-Cigarette with Removable Batteries?

A Replaceable Battery

The main advantage of an e-cigarette with a removable battery is the ability to remove the battery when permitted by the manufacturer. A discharged battery can therefore be replaced with a compatible, properly charged battery in good condition.

However, this requires following the handling, transport and storage precautions applicable to lithium-ion batteries.

Different Box Mod and Kit Formats

E-cigarettes with removable batteries come in several formats. Some box mods operate with a single battery, while others use two. They may offer adjustable wattage, a screen and different electronic operating modes.

It is important to distinguish the specifications of the box mod from those of the tank. Inhalation style and coil compatibility depend on the complete setup.

18650 or 21700 Battery: What Are the Differences?

The 18650 Battery

The 18650 format refers to a cylindrical battery approximately 18 mm in diameter and 65 mm in length. It is used in many compatible electronic box mods.

18650 batteries can have different capacities and discharge ratings. It is essential to select a battery that meets the electrical requirements of the device rather than relying solely on its physical dimensions.

The 21700 Battery

The 21700 format refers to a battery approximately 21 mm in diameter and 70 mm in length. Larger than an 18650 battery, it may offer different capacity or discharge characteristics depending on the model.

A 21700 battery cannot be installed in a box mod designed exclusively for 18650 batteries. Conversely, some 21700-compatible devices can also accept 18650 batteries using an adapter supplied or approved by the manufacturer.

Which Battery Format Should You Choose?

The choice depends primarily on the compatibility of the e-cigarette. Check the supported formats in the user manual, the required discharge current and the specifications of the recommended battery.

Important: two batteries of the same format do not necessarily offer the same performance or electrical limits.

Single-Battery or Dual-Battery Box Mod: How to Choose

A single-battery box mod operates with one compatible battery. Depending on its design, it may be relatively compact.

A dual-battery box mod operates with two batteries and may offer different power and battery-life characteristics. However, the number of batteries alone does not determine actual operating time.

For devices using multiple batteries, it is essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions. These may require the use of identical batteries in similar condition that have been paired together since their first use.

How to Choose the Wattage of an E-Cigarette with Removable Batteries

The power of an electronic box mod is generally expressed in watts (W). Some models offer a wide adjustment range, but this does not mean they should be operated at maximum power.

The wattage must remain suitable for the installed coil and comply with the tank manufacturer's recommendations. The battery must also be capable of supplying the required current under the device's operating conditions.

When comparing products, consult their technical specifications, available electronic protections and information about compatible batteries.

Safety: How to Use E-Cigarette Batteries Correctly

Check the Condition of the Battery

Inspect the battery before every use. Never use a battery that is deformed, damaged, leaking or has damaged outer insulation. If in doubt, stop using it and seek advice from a qualified professional.

Transport Batteries in a Suitable Case

Never carry a removable battery loose in a pocket or bag alongside keys, coins or other metal objects. Use a suitable protective battery case to prevent short circuits.

Follow the Charging Instructions

Only use a charging method that complies with the manufacturer's recommendations. A compatible external charger may be required or recommended depending on the device.

Do not charge a battery showing visible defects or abnormal behaviour. Avoid extreme temperatures and monitor charging conditions according to the user manual.

Which Tank Can Be Used with a Removable-Battery Box Mod?

Electronic box mods with removable batteries often feature a 510 connection designed to accommodate a compatible tank or atomizer.

However, the connection is only one factor to consider. Tank diameter, coil specifications and available electrical settings must also be checked.

Using a removable battery does not determine the inhalation style. Depending on the tank and coil, some setups support mouth-to-lung (MTL), restricted direct-to-lung (RDL) or direct-to-lung (DL) vaping.

What Is the Difference Between a Removable Battery and a Built-In Battery?

An e-cigarette with a built-in battery has a battery installed directly inside the device. Charging is performed using the system provided by the manufacturer.

An e-cigarette with a removable battery uses a replaceable battery cell. This design allows the battery to be exchanged but requires additional precautions concerning selection, transport, charging and handling.

At RoyalCig, product pages help you compare these two types of devices according to battery life, format, power output and accessories.
